Imaging & Screening

Affordable medical imaging and scans, all under one roof in Milton Keynes

At Bloom Health Hospital, our onsite imaging & screening suite brings together CT, Ultrasound, X-ray and Echo, supported by trusted MRI partners in Milton Keynes, to help you and your clinician understand what's going on and plan the right next steps.

What Imaging Means at Bloom Health

Bloom Health’s imaging and screening services are seamlessly integrated across our Urgent Care Centre, self-directed diagnostic access, and specialty care pathways; striving to deliver rapid, accurate results and insights when they matter most.

At Bloom Health you'll find:

  • A modern onsite imaging suite within easy reach of our clinicians.

  • Scans that support assessment of injuries, sudden pain, abdominal or pelvic concerns, chest symptoms, headaches, musculoskeletal issues and more, where clinically appropriate.

  • A focus on clarity, reassurance and safety, not scare tactics or unnecessary tests.

Our Onsite Imaging Services

We provide a range of medical imaging services in one place, helping to minimise delays and reduce the need to travel between different sites.

Our onsite digital X-ray service means that, where appropriate, patients can often have their X-ray in Milton Keynes during the same visit as their clinical assessment.

X-ray can be particularly useful when:

  • You have a suspected fracture or bone injury.
  • There are concerns about joints or the spine.
  • A chest X-ray is clinically indicated.
  • The clinician needs a quick view of bones or certain structures.

Our onsite CT scanner allows us to take detailed cross-sectional images of the body using carefully controlled X-rays.

A CT scan in Milton Keynes at Bloom Health may be used, where clinically appropriate, to help assess:

  • Certain types of abdominal pain or discomfort.
  • Some headaches or neurological concerns (as advised by a clinician)
  • Injuries or trauma, especially where deeper structures need review.
  • Selected chest or lung-related issuesYour CT will only be requested after a clinical assessment.

We offer private ultrasound in Milton Keynes using a high-quality ultrasound machine with multiple probes. Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, to create moving images of structures inside the body.

Depending on your symptoms and clinical assessment, ultrasound may be used to look at:

  • Abdominal organs (such as liver, gallbladder, kidneys).
  • Pelvic area, including gynaecological or bladder-related concerns.
  • Muscles, tendons and joints (MSK ultrasound).
  • Soft tissue lumps or swellings.
  • Certain vascular (blood vessel) assessments.
  • Some pregnancy-related concerns, where clinically appropriate.

An echocardiogram is a non-invasive ultrasound scan that produces detailed images of the heart, allowing clinicians to assess its structure and function in real time.

At Bloom Health Hospital, echocardiograms are performed using our advanced ultrasound technology and may be used to help assess symptoms such as:

  • Chest discomfort or unexplained chest symptoms.
  • Shortness of breath or reduced exercise tolerance.
  • Palpitations or concerns about heart function.
  • Dizziness or light-headedness.
  • Suspected valve, muscle, or structural heart conditions.

An echocardiogram does not replace all cardiac investigations, but it provides valuable insight into how the heart is working and may be used alongside other tests, clinical assessment, and further imaging where appropriate.

Some conditions or symptoms are best assessed with MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), which provides very detailed views of soft tissues, joints, the brain and spinal structures.

While MRI is not located onsite at Bloom Health, we work closely with trusted MRI providers in Milton Keynes. When your clinician feels an MRI would be helpful, we can:

  • Discuss why an MRI is recommended.
  • Help guide you towards an appropriate private MRI pathway in Milton Keynes.
  • Ensure results are considered alongside your other findings and clinical assessment.

When Imaging Can Help

Imaging is not always necessary, but it can be extremely helpful when used at the right time, for the right reason. If you’re unsure whether you need a scan, our team will listen to your concerns and explain your options in clear, simple terms.

Your clinician may recommend imaging if you have:

  • Sudden or ongoing pain that needs further investigation

  • A recent injury or suspected fracture

  • Abdominal or pelvic discomfort that requires more than a physical examination

  • Chest symptoms, such as breathlessness or persistent discomfort

  • Soft tissue lumps or swellings that need characterisation

  • Musculoskeletal injuries, such as sports injuries or joint problems

  • A known condition that requires monitoring

Safety & Quality

Your safety is central to everything we do.

All imaging is carried out by trained clinicians, radiographers, sonographers or appropriate staff.

Radiation safety is taken very seriously; X-ray and CT use the lowest practical doses needed to obtain diagnostic images.

We will always discuss whether an imaging test is necessary and appropriate before proceeding.

Ultrasound uses sound waves and involves no radiation.

Echo is non-invasive and painless.

Imaging results are interpreted by accredited reporting clinicians or partners, and then explained to you in plain language.

How It Works

We keep the process as straightforward and supportive as possible:

Clinical Assessment

You’ll first be seen by a clinician, who will discuss your symptoms, examine you where appropriate, and decide if imaging is likely to be helpful and safe.

Choosing the Right Scan

Based on your presentation, the clinician will decide which imaging test (if any) is appropriate - such as X-ray, ultrasound, CT, Echo, or referral for MRI through our partners.

Imaging Appointment

If a scan is needed and available, it may take place during your visit or be booked for a suitable time. For MRI, we will help you access a local partner service.

Results & Next Steps

Once your imaging has been reviewed by the appropriate reporting clinician, a member of our clinical team will explain what the findings mean and discuss any recommended next steps.

We will not promise specific turnaround times or immediate reporting, but we will always be honest about what to expect and keep you updated wherever possible.
